Join TAP-DC for a casual get-together to chat, practice, and connect with the community.
Is this group for me?
This is a casual practice space, not a formal class. We will help each other out.
β Beyond the basics: If you can hold basic conversationsβeven if you stumble, mix in English, or make mistakesβthis space is for you! Active learners, heritage speakers, and fluent speakers are all welcome.
β οΈ For absolute beginners: Since there is no curriculum, this specific meetup will be tough to follow if you are starting from scratch. We strongly encourage you to check out the local beginner classes listed at the bottom of this page to build your foundation!
No reading is expected, though taking notes could be helpful. Feel free to suggest discussion topics in the event chat beforehand. Afterward, anyone interested is welcome to grab dinner with us to keep the conversation going.

If you are just starting out, we highly recommend dropping by the adult classes held by the Washington DC Taiwanese School (WDCTS). They are a fantastic local resource, and both adult classes are conducted in English:

1οΈβ£ 3:10 β 4:30 PM: WDCTS Beginner Taiwanese for Adults class (Room 2221) - foundational class
2οΈβ£ 4:40 β 5:10 PM: WDCTS Basic Taiwanese Conversation class (Room 1411) - free conversation practice for those with prior exposure

Whether youβre a long-time member, a TAP alum, or checking out your very first event, we want to meet you. Grab a bubble tea (from Kung Fu Tea) or a bite from the food hall, and join us for a relaxed get-together.
Our events are open to everyone. We'll have a fun, low-pressure activity to help everyone get to know each other. Bring a friend or come meet one! Itβs casual, and our events typically have newcomers who come join us.
For anyone interested, we will likely head out to a nearby spot afterward (like Punch Bowl Social) to keep the night going.
